Coffee & Downing – Retail Buildings Lift Station
Project Description
A private commercial development required a new wastewater lift station to handle medium flows of wastewater. Romtec Utilities designed the lift station with Ebara 5 hp pumps arranged in a duplex configuration to meet the site pumping requirements. Several of the new buildings in the retail space are restaurants, which required the lift station to use components suitable for higher than average concentrations of fats, oils, and greases, or FOGs. For this reason, a pressure transducer was selected as the primary level sensor with NOLTA mechanical floats used for high-level alarms. Romtec Utilities designed the pump station controls with a logic relay controller inside a NEMA 4 painted steel enclosure. Additionally, the controls include an auto-dialer to notify personnel of pump failures and high-level alarms.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The property on the corner of Coffee Road and Downing Avenue in Bakersfield, California was recently developed by Four M Investments into several retail buildings. Romtec Utilities was contracted to design, supply, and manufacture a site-specific wastewater lift station that would meet the requirements of this project. The system needed to be able to handle wastewater sourced from multiple restaurant buildings. Swanson Engineering, the engineer working for the developer, supplied Romtec Utilities with the design criteria used to engineer the lift station. The system was delivered once the design was approved and the site was ready for installation. Underground construction was completed by Sierra Construction, the contractor, who worked directly with Romtec Utilities. An installation advisor was provided to answer any construction questions regarding the lift station. Once completed, Romtec Utilities provided complete start-up, testing, and training services on the pump station to the owners and operators of this private lift station.
