City of Port Orchard – Replacing Old Lift Stations With Efficient Designs
Project Description
Wastewater Pump Stations across the country are aging and in need of replacement; Romtec Utilities has the knowledge and experience to replace these systems with newer and more efficient lift stations. McCormick Communities came to Romtec Utilities with the need to replace an existing submersible station in the City of Port Orchard, Washington.
This situation was exactly the type where knowledge and expertise were needed; this system is large and one of the major collection points for The City. Unlike many other systems, The City elected to use a “wet/dry” station, which means that it has a “wet” well in which wastes and fluids are collected, and a “dry” vault in which the pumps are housed; the pumps are not submerged inside the fluid as they ordinarily would be in a typical “Submersible” system. Instead, the pumps are connected to the wet well using pipes, and pull fluid from the well to pump back out of the system and on to treatment. This wet dry pump station is a “Triplex system utilizing three 125HP Vaughan Chopper Pumps that work together to meet the pumping needs of this station.
The McCormick Lift Station #1 is an impressive site; on site are a 10’ inner diameter (ID) wet well, a precast rectangular dry pit, a fiberglass storage tank, a meter vault, a davit crane, a backup generator, and a control building to house the NEMA 12MCC controls and the Allen-Bradley CompactLogix controller. Romtec Utilities worked in conjunction with many talented and knowledgeable agencies to complete this project: RV and Associates for installation of the structures; Contour Engineering for site engineering; McCormick Communities, who brought the project to Romtec Utilities; and the City of Port Orchard, who will be taking over ownership of the lift station. The McCormick Lift Station #1 project was truly an impressive project, and couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work and knowledge of everyone involved.
