Merck Animal Health – Industrial Wastewater with Variable pH
Project Description
This industrial pumping system was designed to handle medium flows of process wastewater created from cleaning cycles at the Merck Animal Health facility. The wastewater was specified with highly variable pH conditions, so the pumping system was designed with a double-wall fiberglass sump with leak detection. All of the submersible components in the well were constructed of stainless steel, including the Tsurumi duplex submersible pumps. The pumping system electrical controls comprised a UL listed panel with SCADA integration.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Arcadis U.S., Inc. contacted Romtec Utilities to design and engineer this industrial wastewater pumping system for Merck’s Animal Health facility. Its specification required a unique and tough design with a double-wall sump and highly variable water chemistry. Romtec Utilities designed this system with a Xerxes fiberglass sump with double-walls and leak detection and stainless steel componentry. This design was both difficult and costly to manufacture, but Arcadis U.S. was determined that Merck Animal Health would receive an extremely robust system that would meet its needs and protect the environment. With the grit shown by Arcadis U.S., the Romtec Utilities design was manufactured, supplied, and installed to meet the needs of Merck Animal Health and protect the local environment.
