Middletown Energy Center – HRSG Blowdown and Process Pumping
Project Description
Construction of a new combined cycle power plant in Middletown, OH required 3 pump stations for the operation of its HRSG system. Middletown Energy Center uses natural gas and HRSG to generate power, this process requires significant amounts of water for operation. Both the blowdown and process water pump stations handle high flows of hot water that is often corrosive. To prevent these conditions from damaging the pumps, Romtec Utilities engineered above-ground pump assemblies for these systems. Both systems use a duplex configuration with Goulds pumps. The blowdown system uses 7.5 hp pumps while process water uses 10 hp pumps to meet its higher flow requirements. Electrical controls for each system are housed inside NEMA steel enclosures next to their wet wells.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Gemma Power first contacted Romtec Utilities to request a quote on its private bid project for these pump stations. We previously provided several power gen pump stations for Gemma Power facilities prior to this and won the job. The three pump stations installed are used for crucial onsite facilities needed in the HRSG process, with these two systems handling the blowdown water and process water respectively. We worked alongside Gemma Power throughout the project on the design and construction of the pump stations. Once installation was complete Romtec Utilities sent a field technician to commission the systems and provide onsite training for owners and operations personnel.
