Milan Federal Correctional Institute – Low-Cost Lift Station Retrofit
Project Description
Two skid-mounted lift station systems retrofitted two existing stations for medium sewage flows at this federal correctional facility. Preassembled above-grade skids with Pioneer self-priming pumps in duplex configurations drop suction piping into the existing sumps to pump effluent to the existing force mains. The system valves and control panels were delivered preassembled on the skid. The skid-mounted control panels include intrinsically safe barriers for in-well electrical controls and pressure transducers and conductive probes for primary and backup liquid level-sensing.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The Milan Federal Correctional Institute needed to replace two aging lift stations that were experiencing operational problems. The expense for two full replacement systems was too large to bear for the prison. Romtec Utilities was contacted to propose a plan to retrofit the existing systems. After visiting the prison, the technicians and engineers from Romtec Utilities engineered a plan to complete the retrofit packages. To make use of the below-grade sumps, two skid-mounted lift station systems were configured as part of the retrofit plan. Milan Federal Correctional Institute was able to purchase both complete skid-mounted systems through the Romtec Utilities GSA contract, providing huge cost savings for the design, manufacturing, delivering, and installation of these two retrofit systems.
