Monrovia, California, Wastewater Lift Station and Booster Skid
Booster Project Assets
Lift Station Project Assets
The project was initially bid with concerns about alternate suppliers. Romtec Utilities worked proactively with Merrell Johnson to ensure clarity in the bid documents, confirming that Romtec was the only approved supplier for the second bid round.
The City of Monrovia did not have formal pump station design standard. Romtec Utilities leveraged its extensive municipal experience to develop a system based on proven configurations and preferences, including Grundfos pumps and Allen-Bradley controls.
Romtec Utilities collaborated directly with the consulting engineer to produce bid-ready plans and specifications. These documents were used in full by Merrell Johnson during the bidding process, streamlining procurement and ensuring system compatibility.
Engineering and Design Highlights of the Wastewater Lift Station and Booster Skid
Romtec Utilities provided a complete packaged submersible pump station designed for municipal wastewater collection. The system features:
– Duplex pump configuration with alternating operation for balanced wear.
– Peak flow rate: 60 GPM
– Total Dynamic Head (TDH): 17.7 feet
– Wet well diameter: 5 feet
– Wet well depth: 9.6 feet
– Wet Well: precast concrete
– Active volume: 90 gallons
– Control Panel: UL-listed control panel with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC and 7-inch touchscreen HMI.
– Level sensing is managed by a pressure transducer and two float switched for redundancy.
In addition to the lift station, Romtec Utilities supplied a booster skid system featuring:
– Three Grundfos CR20-4 vertical multi-stage pumps
– Duty conditions: 133.3 GPM at 68.3 psi
– Motor specs: 10 HP, 3600 RPM, TEFC, 208-230/460V, 3-phase
– NSF61 approved for potable water applications.
This system was designed to support Canyon Park’s water distribution upgrades.
Conclusion: A Successful Partnership in Sewer Infrastructure Improvement
The Canyon Park lift station and booster skid project represents a successful partnership between Romtec Utilities, the City of Monrovia, and Merrell Johnson Engineering. By delivering a fully engineered, prefabricated system, Romtec Utilities helped the city modernize its wastewater infrastructure with minimal disruption and maximum reliability.
