Septic System Replacement Lift Station for West Mesa Industrial Park
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed a septic system replacement lift station for The West Mesa Industrial Park’s system in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Las Cruces, New Mexico is near the southern border of the state that is close to the national border of Mexico.
It’s the second most populous city in the state of New Mexico and boasts a population of 111,000. It is also the county seat of Dona Ana County.
The city is located on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert and experiences warm temperatures year-round.
The Rio Grande River flows nearby, providing a place for parks or recreational areas next to the river. El Paso, Texas is about 45 miles south of Las Cruces which is directly across the border from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.

The Organ Mountains are east, providing hiking and viewing areas like the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument, the Organ Needle, or Baylor Peak.
The West Mesa Industrial Park is a large development for light industry, manufacturing, or aviation industry businesses that is owned by the City of Las Cruces. This industrial park is situated along Interstate 10 and to the south of the airport.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The West Mesa Industrial Park needed to replace an existing septic system. The US Army Corps of Engineers coordinated with Romtec Utilities to design a septic system replacement lift station to replace the industrial park’s system.
The resulting package wastewater lift station met the high sewage flows of this publicly owned industrial complex. The submersible sewage pumps in a duplex configuration are explosion proof to meet the wet well space classification.
An outdoor UL-listed panel utilizes floats and a pressure transducer for intrinsically safe level controls. It also includes an auto dialer for communications and a blower for odor control.
Federally funded projects can carry additional requirements beyond the standard bid process.
Romtec Utilities worked within these requirements to design and supply a wastewater lift station to the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) under its GSA contract.
To accomplish this, Romtec Utilities worked with the USACE and the City of Las Cruces to design pump system capable of handling existing and future flow requirements. To comply with federal regulation, the bidding contractors were required to be classified as 8(a), and Pate Construction Company, Inc. won the job.
Romtec Utilities worked with all the agencies involved to satisfy requirements while providing a federal discount with its GSA contract.
The Septic System Replacement Lift Station features an 8′ diameter wet well, 6″ discharge piping, NP3127 Flygt pumps, and a 6″ SS – 687 Valve vault. The pump system can pump 733 gallons per minute with a total dynamic head of 44’.
Romtec Utilities was proud to provide this septic system replacement lift station for the City of Las Cruces, New Mexico at this industrial park. The design meets the current needs and future flows for this industrial development.
