City of Shafter – Replacement Wastewater Lift Station in City Park
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied a wastewater lift station to replace an existing system located in a city park in the City of Shafter, California. The lift station handles high flows of wastewater with a duplex configuration of Flygt 5 hp submersible pumps. In order to reduce the number of pump starts per hour, Romtec Utilities designed this lift station using a 23’ deep wet well with a 6’ interior diameter. Primary and backup level sensing in the system is achieved using a pair of Multitrode 10 sensor probes. These grant a high level of reliability without the need for moving parts. Electrical controls for the system were designed using Flygt’s MultiSmart Pump Station Controller and installed inside a durable NEMA 3R painted steel enclosure.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities was contacted to design and supply a replacement wastewater lift station for the City of Shafter in Rodriguez Park. The new system was needed to handle growing flows from the area while modernizing the infrastructure. Romtec Utilities has completed several projects with the City of Shafter and was familiar with their design preferences and using this information designed the new system with Flygt pumps and controls. The city provided the necessary information to Romtec Utilities to design the lift station for this specific application. Sierra Contractor’s performed the installation of the pumping system with a Romtec Utilities construction advisor available onsite to answer any questions about the system. Once the structural and mechanical components were installed, Romtec Utilities sent a start-up technician to commission the system and provide start-up and testing services for personnel.
