Trammell Crow Residential – Wastewater Lift Station
Wastewater Lift Station Project Description
Romtec Utilities often supplies wastewater lift stations for new housing developments, and in the Fashion Valley project we supplied a lift station to service a new apartment building by Trammell Crow Residential in San Diego, California.
Trammell Crow is a real estate investment and development group with over 70 years of experience and $21 Billion in assets. Their new apartment complex, known as the Alexan Gallerie, is one of their latest developments in San Diego and is close to the Fashion Valley Shopping Mall, restaurants, and the San Diego River. The complex is also located close to Interstate 8 and California Highway 163 for easy travel and commute. (Crow Holdings, 2021)
To serve the future residents of the Alexan Gallerie, Romtec Utilities supplied a polymer 6’ inner diameter wet well that is 20’ in depth. Polymer wet wells are a great option for wastewater lift stations in warmer environments and will resist corrosion by Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) gas better than a traditional concrete wet well. Polymer Concrete is being largely accepted in the warmer environments of the southwest US but is also being used in a variety of applications all over the nation.
Wastewater Lift Station Design
Inside the wet well, two 5 horsepower Vaughan chopper submersible pumps will pump the water out of the well while simultaneously chopping up any solids. Chopper pumps can greatly reduce the chance of damage to the pumps and force mains due to debris.
The level sensing in this system is achieved by an E&H pressure transducer that sits at the bottom of the well and determines depth from the pressure of the water column above it. NOLTA floats were also installed as a secondary level sensor in this system as a safety measure to prevent dangerous wastewater overflows. The level sensors send their readings to the controller, a Unitronics V570 with a color display, which controls the pump down cycles.
The lift station was installed on site by Sheldon Site Utilities and has been successfully commissioned into service. The station will be owned and maintained by Trammell Crow Residential and has given them another successful project is their vast real estate portfolio.
