Romtec Utilities is one of the industry’s best options for getting custom pumping system designs like this project designed and supplied for BAE Systems. BAE Systems produces a wide-variety of products that serve primarily military and defense organizations. At its Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Tennessee, BAE had unique criteria for a new pumping system. Due to the sensitive nature of its manufacturing, many aspects of this project could not be disclosed, but Romtec Utilities has worked with several organizations that required discretion. The Romtec Utilities solution for BAE Systems was this skid-mounted, triplex pumping system, but there are several other unique design aspects.
Praxair, Inc|East Chicago, IN|1,800 GPM - 33.5' TDH
A liquid hydrogen plant required this large 20’ deep lift station to handle super-high flows of industrial wastewater. In order to provide redundancy and expanded pumping capabilities, triplex submersible centrifugal pumps were specified in the 8’ diameter sump. A large custom valve vault holds the complete 8” valve configurations with triplex discharge piping and force main headers. Two below grade junction boxes hold electrical disconnects to comply with the classified space. An outdoor UL listed control panel uses float controls for primary and backup liquid level-sensing.
USACE Prime Power|St. Roberts, MO|300 GPM - 143' TDH
These package lift stations were designed to meet the high head pumping requirements for this training facility of the US Army Corps of Engineers. For one station with over 7,000 ft. of 8” force main, 35 hp duplex submersible centrifugal pumps were supplied to achieve the 300 gpm flow rate . The second lift station used smaller, 4 hp duplex grinder pumps to meet its pumping requirements. Outdoor UL listed control panels utilize float controls for level-sensing and soft starters to provide advanced pump diagnostics and to reduce inrush currents. Autodialers were specified for communications.
TVA Power Plant|West Paducah, KY|50 GPM - 67.7' TDH
This industrial power plant needed a package lift station to meet the requirements for municipal wastewater. The 23-foot-deep sump holds duplex Goulds submersible sewage pumps specified to meet the 50 gpm maximum flow requirements. A precast concrete valve vault contains the system valves and a force main junction. Both the below-grade wet well and valve vault are pedestrian rated. Liquid level-sensing controls are a pressure transducer and floats for backup. The outdoor control panel includes a receptacle for an owner supplied onsite generator.
US Naval Base|Djibouti, North Africa|100 GPM - 20' TDH
This package lift station was the perfect solution for installing an American-made system at a US Naval Base in North Africa. The package approach facilitated transoceanic shipping and private installation. Designed to handle medium flows of wastewater, this lift station includes duplex pumps, valves, a drop bowl, and a mushroom cap vent pipe as the key wet well components. To meet site requirements in the country of Djibouti, the UL listed control panel, pumps, and level-sensing controls were configured to operate with a European type of power supply.
