Shafter, California is a city of about 17,000 people located 18 miles northwest of Bakersfield, California.

Bakersfield has a population around 400,000 and is the major city between Fresno and Los Angeles.

Shafter sits along State Route 43 and was once a loading dock on the Santa Fe Railroad right of way. The city was named after General William Shafter who led US forces in the Spanish-American War in Cuba.

The City of Shafter contacted Romtec Utilities to provide a new wastewater lift station for a combined Shafter Caltrans project. The City of Shafter wanted a pumping system that met their standards and will be operated and maintained by the city. This is a publicly funded project by the City of Shafter.

This is a municipal system that will serve mixed-use development infrastructure.

The City of Shafter originally owned the property, then had a developer come in to purchase which now requires the use of a lift station. The lift station was intended for a different location but was relocated onto state highway easement when the property sold.

The civil installing contractor on behalf of the City of Shafter was SW Construction. Based out of Bakersfield, SW Construction is a general contractor who works on sewer lift stations, underground utilities, and concrete.
