Dermody Properties – Industrial Wastewater Station
Pump Station Project Description
Romtec Utilities often supplies wastewater lift stations for new developments, and in the Dermody Oxbow project we supplied a lift station for a new industrial park in Tukwila, Washington.
The project site for the new industrial park is located along the Duwamish River in Tukwila, tucked between Interstate 5 and Washington Hwy 99. Just south of Seattle, this location has easy access to highways and nearby airports. Seeing value in the property, Dermody Properties purchased the lot to create their new industrial park. The project plan consists of “redevelopment of roughly 45 acres to construct a large warehouse/distribution building” including truck docks, landscaping, utilities, and parking. With the proximity of the site to the Duwamish River, the site redevelopment plans also include a 100’ shoreline buffer along the river to protect the water and habitat. Pump Station Design
The Romtec Utilities supplied lift station, replacing an existing lift station, is composed of a precast 8’ inner diameter wet well that extends 28’ in depth and houses two 10 horsepower Flygt Submersible pumps to meet pumping demands. The Flygt pumps are controlled by a RUG-5 RTU controller, which receives level reading from a Siemens Ultrasonic Transducer for reliable and accurate level sensing. A secondary level sensor, a NOLTA MS1 Float, was also installed as a backup measure to better ensure that the pumps will be activated and the lift station won’t overflow in the event of a high level situation.
In addition to the lift station, Romtec Utilities also supplied a 2-Post shelter from our sister company, Romtec, Inc. Simple shelters such as this can protect the control panel, switch gear, generator ATS , and other electrical equipment from weather concerns such as rain, snow, or even the heat. As we all know it is never a good idea to mix water with electricity, but in most cases control panels will also have a maximum temperature to avoid in order to ensure proper functionality of all of the internal components such as PLCs.
The Romtec Utilities lift station was installed onsite by Hos Bros. Construction Inc, a General Contractor out of Woodinville, WA. The successful installation and start-up of this station has allowed Dermody Properties to continue their development in one of the “Puget Sound region’s major industrial centers” and add an impressive piece of property to their portfolio.
