HRSG Water Treatment Pump Station for Middletown Energy Center
Project Description
Romtec Utilities provided three HRSG Water treatment pump stations for Middleton Energy Center in Middleton, Ohio. Middletown, Ohio is a city located within the Cincinnati metropolitan area, sitting about 29 miles to the north of Cincinnati.
Dayton, Ohio is about 20 miles to the north along Interstate 75 which runs through Middletown. Route 4 and Route 73 go through this area.
This city is within Butler and Warren counties, while boasting a population of 50,987.
The metropolitan area includes parts of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana with a population of 2,256,884 in the most recent census.
The Great Miami River runs adjacent to the city providing parks like the Miami River County Park, Smith Park, Forest Hills Country Club, Washington Park, Middletown River Center, and Barnitz Stadium.
Other attractions include Wildwood Golf Club, Bull’s Run Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum, Sunset Park, Dowling Park, Jacot Park, Lefferson Park, and Goldman Park.
There are a variety of major railroads that run through this area, making it an ideal place to ship products from. The railroads include the Baltimore and Ohio, Erie Railroad, New York Central, and Pennsylvania Railroad.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Middletown Energy Center uses natural gas and HRSG to generate power, this process requires significant amounts of water for operation. Water used in this process gets super-heated and becomes corrosive. If the water is not treated it can damage components throughout the system.
Construction of a new combined cycle power plant required three pump stations for the operation of its HRSG system. Gemma Power first contacted Romtec Utilities to request a quote on its private bid project for these pump stations.
We previously provided several power gen pump stations for Gemma Power facilities prior to this and won the job.
To meet the low flow requirements and provide redundancy, Goulds 1/2 hp submersible pumps were engineered in a duplex configuration. Additionally, the electrical controls comprise a logic relay controller and a NEMA 4x enclosure adjacent to the wet well.
The three pump stations installed are used for crucial onsite facilities needed in the HRSG process. We worked alongside Gemma Power throughout the project on the design and construction phases.
Once installation was complete Romtec Utilities sent a field technician to commission the system and provide onsite training for owners and operating personnel.
Romtec Utilities designs, manufactures, and supplies wastewater pump stations for industrial applications to support Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) power processes. They are built to handle these harsh conditions while collecting and discharging untreated water into the on-site treatment facility.
Each HRSG has its own unique needs from the temperature of the water to handling inlet lines or pumping to force mains for reuse circulation or treatment. We can design it to meet the project’s exact pumping needs while meeting all local building codes for the project.
Our pump designs specify and integrate heat resistant components that stand up to the water conditions for this application. Romtec Utilities can create a system that meets your exact power plant industrial pumping needs, including an HRSG blowdown system like this project for Gemma Power in Middletown, Ohio.
