The IBM Boulder Data Center needed to replace a wastewater lift station with a new system to handle medium flows of wastewater generated at the facility. A precast concrete sump includes a pedestrian rated hatch with a safety grate for reliable fall protection. Two, Ebara 5 hp pumps were included in the design for redundant pumping capabilities, and a prefabricated valve vault structure contains check valves and control valves. A UL listed control panel with phase monitoring was engineered in a NEMA 4X stainless steel enclosure for installation outdoors.
The City of Oakland|Oakland, CA|1,339 GPM - 21.9' TDH
This municipal water district replaced an existing lift station with this packaged lift station designed for the high sewage flow requirements. 15 hp submersible sewage pumps discharges to a below grade valve assembly, which includes valves, actuators, indicators, and access ports. The outdoor control panel utilizes a pressure transducer for primary liquid level sensing and float controls for backup. The panel also includes soft starters to reduce the inrush current, which can sap the onsite generator during pump starts.
The City of Wenatchee|Wenatchee, WA|375 GPM - 125' TDH
This municipal lift station replacement was configured to handle medium flows of sewage from a large area of Wenatchee, Washington. This deep wet well was constructed from precast concrete and includes Tnemec interior coating. Vaughan Chopper Pumps in a duplex configuration were selected to macerate solids and alternate pumping cycles. A PLC with a touchscreen interface provides an easy and flexible control panel. The primary level-sensing device is a pressure transducer with floats backup level-sensing. This control panel also uses soft starters to reduce current inrush to the 30 hp pumps.
Ski Resort Retrofit|Stevens Pass, WA|65 GPM - 35' TDH
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied this wastewater lift station retrofit to meet the medium sewage flows at the Steven’s Pass Ski Resort. A major part of the retrofit supply package were two Vaughan submersible chopper pumps for wastewater. The electrical controls were the next significant portion of the retrofit. The PLC controller included a touchscreen HMI with autodialer telemetry and SCADA options to communicate with the resort treatment plant. This communication provides advance notification for the treatment plant as the lift station is nearly inaccessible during winter months.
Union Pacific Railroad|Cheyenne, WY|100 GPM - 22' TDH
The Union Pacific Depot in Cheyenne, Wyoming needed two new sewer lift stations to replace its existing sewer collection system. Each lift station included three precast concrete vault structures, a wet well, valve vault, and metering vault. Both systems use 2 hp Ebara Vortex® sewage pumps in duplex configurations that are explosions proof rated for Class I, Division I locations. The valve assemblies comprise Val-Matic Cam-Centric® plug valves and Swing-Flex® check valves with pressure gauges. Endress and Hauser PROline® electromagnetic flow meters measure the sewage flows for both lift stations. These in-ground valve and meter assemblies were fitted with heat tracing to provide reliable frost protection with Raychem and Digitrace components.
