City of Port Orchard, WA – Residential Wastewater Lift Station
Wastewater Pumping System Project Description
Port Orchard, Washington is a city west of Seattle across the Puget Sound that is accessible through the Washington State Ferries through Southworth. Port Orchard is the county seat of Kitsap County and had a population of 16,400 at the 2020 census.
Vashon Island is nearby and connects to this area as well through ferries. Washington State Route 16 runs through this area which heads south towards Tacoma and connects back with Interstate 5.
The city gets its name from Port Orchard, the strait that separates Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap Peninsula.
The Sinclair Inlet borders this city on the north side while Bremerton is the city on the opposite side of the inlet.
Some of the area’s attractions include the Bug & Reptile Museum, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Sidney Art Gallery and Museum, Harborside Fountain Park, Manchester State Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Village Greens Golf Course, South Kitsap Regional Park, McCormick Woods Golf Club, McCormick Village Park, and VanZee Park Disc Golf Course.
This is a new plant that is being added to the McCormick residential development. The development has three phases, and the middle phase is on a “crown” of land, with the other phases being lower. This is a challenge to properly convey wastewater off the development.
Romtec Utilities was contacted by GFK Consulting, Inc., who are very familiar with us from previous projects. Romtec Utilities Sales worked primarily with GFK Consulting on this project from inception through contract. We worked with GFK Consulting on various other phases of this McCormick development including the McCormick LS#1 Replacement and Eldon Trails projects.
Romtec Utilities also worked with Contour Engineering LLC in the development of the 30% design package. Contour Engineering LLC is a leading engineering consulting firm that provides civil engineering along with comprehensive land development services.
The wastewater lift station has Vaughan 15hp submersible pumps in a duplex configuration, with an Allen-Bradley CompactLogix as the primary controller, along with FMX21 pressure transducers for the primary level sensing.
The installing contractor of the wastewater lift system was Rickabaugh Pentecost Development on behalf of the developer Windward Project Management. Rickabaugh Pentecost Development is a heavy civil contractor based out of Puyallup, Washington.
The end owner of the wastewater lift station will be the City of Port Orchard. The project owner is Quadrant Homes who developed the residential neighborhood known as McCormick Meadows. Quadrant Homes has been building homes in the Puget Sound area for 40 years.
Romtec, the sister company of Romtec Utilities, provided a simple control shelter for the controls of the wastewater lift station.
Romtec Utilities is proud to be a part of this residential housing development by Quadrant Homes in Port Orchard, Washington. The wastewater lift system provides service to this second phase of the development. Romtec Utilities designed, manufactured, and supplied the complete package lift station along with a construction advisor who provided commissioning and training of the system upon completion of the installation.
At Romtec Utilities we have worked with a variety of developers on residential housing projects that have multiple phases and require wastewater lift stations for each phase. Designing each system with the larger development in mind as we work with the owner, developer, and engineers is helpful for continuity and maintaining the same controls and various features of the system for seamless maintenance.
